TULIP TIME IN

HOLLAND & BELGIUM

8-DAY'S RIVER CRUISE FROM AMSTERDAM  TO BRUSSELS

If you’ve dreamed of a view filled with windmills and blooming fields of color in Holland and Belgium, it all comes true on your European river cruise from Amsterdam to Brussels! Cruise on the Rhine River with a visit to Arnhem’s WWII Airborne Museum, and join your ship in Nijmegen and visit the lovely forest setting of ‘s-Hertogenbosch to sample decadent Dutch chocolate desserts. You may alternatively visit a fruit and flower farm to meet with the miller there to hear the history of a 15th-century windmill. A carriage ride takes you through the nearby nature reserve to watch for herons, storks, birds of prey, and wild horses. If you prefer, take a guided bike ride along the Rhine River banks of Arnhem. In Maastricht, choose a sightseeing tour of the old cobblestoned university town, or visit a working mill to make your own Limburg pie.

On to Belgium for a sightseeing tour of medieval Namur and free time to browse its ancient architecture, charming cafes, and bookshops. In Liège, see the ancient quarters of the “Fiery City” as well as its romantic streets, steps, and tiny alleyways. Next, you’ll explore the city of Antwerp—the birthplace of the master painter Pieter Paul Rubens. Stroll its cobbled lanes amid 16th-century Guildhall houses and the cathedral’s stunning altarpiece paintings by the famous artist on your guided tour of the diamond capital. In Brussels, you’ll find landmark buildings of Town Hall with a collection of cafes and shops on the Lower Town streets on your guided tour. Memories of Holland and Belgium will bloom in your memory for seasons to come!

Alternatively, in Enkhuizen, a picturesque town with one of the largest marinas in the country, you ay prefer to visit the Zuiderzee Museum to experience the local culture and history. Also, there’s an opportunity to meet some of the locals before continuing your river cruise through the area of Friesland, best known internationally for its black and white Friesian cattle and black Friesian horses. Here, you’ll visit the Royal Planetarium, nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Lelystad, visit the Batavia shipyard and board an exact replica of the Batavia ship itself—originally constructed in 1628 and wrecked on its maiden voyage. Get a true taste of the culture with an introduction to local cheese and Genever! Cruise through the modern harbor of Rotterdam and go on a guided excursion to Gouda, famous for its cheese of the same name, as well as syrup waffles, clay pipes, and the 15th-century City Hall. For garden enthusiasts, you may, instead, choose to see the breathtaking colors of Keukenhof, also known as the “Garden of Europe.” With over 70 acres of parkland and lakes, it’s one of the world’s largest flower gardens.

A river cruise through Holland would not be complete without some time in Holland’s popular, modern capital of Amsterdam. The city combines its historical 17th-century buildings, sculptures, and museums with a modern feel. See the most fascinating areas of the city on a canal cruise along the elegant grachten lined with homes dating back to the city’s “Golden Age.”
